Watched this ep again last night and realized that I've been misled a bit.

I assumed that Root knew all about the Machine, but I realized that it's because she gets in the car right after she kills Alicia, who knows all about it. It might be that Root only knows about Reese and Finch's work with the irrelevants, and that he screwed up one of her gigs, and not about the whole Machine.

I'm not sure I like this theory -- is it worth the effort and money to draw out someone who's just a little better at computer games than she is? Or could someone like Elias have hired her to find and stop him? I guess all I'm thinking is that having Alicia in that scene talking on and on about the Machine and then Turing's appearance made me think she knew, when that may just be a head fake.

I would have agreed with you that Turings reason for kidnapping Finch may have nothing to do with the Machine....in fact we discussed that in the Finch Theories thread. But I rewatched Root Cause and was struck by Root's criminal activties and to which she refers in the car with Finch in Firewall: ie, a CEO she was blackmailing.

In Root Cause she is a killer for hire, setting up a patsy to take the fall for the assassination of a political candidate, and then killing the guy who hired her when Finch and Reese intervene. She's a really Bad Seed! And I'm beginning to think that she perhaps became aware of the existence of the machine through that CEO (...everything mentioned in the series has a reason! ). And now she wants to use the machine for blackmailing activities.

OH boy oh boy what an action packed finale !!

To me, it had kind of a ''24'' feel to it !

Seems I was way off with my ''Root'' Theories black nail polish and all but that's fine by me, keep me guessing and second guessing and prove me wrong in the end

Speaking of ending...this was an intriguing one indeed...who's he talking to ? How does the machine communicate with Finch ? Cool way to end things with everyone alive, a kidnapping, we still have lots and lots more to explore (Elias, Zoe, Root, MACHINE etc etc...) can't wait for season 2 !!!

P.S. Since I have to wait for the french version to come out, if someone here comes across an airing date (In France or Québec) please do share
